Meghan Markle recalled a frightening episode in which she was forced to put her royal obligations ahead of her son Archie's just hours after a fire started in her son's room.

Markle described an event from their 2019 journey to South Africa, Angola, and Malawi in the first episode of her Spotify podcast "Archetypes," which was launched Tuesday last week.

According to Markle, Archie was just 4 months old at the time.

"The moment we landed, we had to drop him off at this housing unit that they had had us staying in," Markle quoted by Us Weekly. "He was going to get ready to go down for his nap."

Markle claimed that after their harrowing news, she and her husband immediately traveled for an official engagement.

"We finish the engagement, we get in the car, and they say there's been a fire at the residence," Markle continued. "There's been a fire in the baby's room."

The Duchess of Sussex and the Duke of Sussex hurried back to their home, where their nanny Lauren was waiting with their now-3-year-old Archie. Lauren took their son with her as she walked downstairs to buy a snack. So thankfully, he hadn't been in the nursery.

"The heater in the nursery caught on fire," Markle said. "There was no smoke detector. Someone [who] happened to just smell smoke down the hallway went in, fire extinguished. He was supposed to be sleeping in there."

Prince Harry and Markle continued to attend their second engagement on the same day despite what had occurred. Markle claimed that as a mother, she was thinking to herself, "Oh, my God, what?"

She was unsure about what to do next or whether she would participate in their upcoming official engagement since "this doesn't make sense."

The royal pair kept the engagement going. Markle responded that she wanted to bring Archie along.

Still, they were not allowed when Serena Williams, her first podcast guest, questioned her about how she was able to leave Archie at home after the terrifying incident.

"I was like, 'Can you just tell people what happened?'" Meghan recalled. "The focus ends up being on how it looks instead of how it feels. ... And even though we were being moved into another place afterward, we still had to leave him and go do another official engagement."

The tennis champion replied, "I couldn't have done that. I would have said, 'Uh-uh.'"
